TA Tackles LTL Routing Complexity with SMC³ Integration

Tuesday, Feb 3, 2026

TA and SMC³ have released results from a partnership focused on LTL rating and routing operations. According to a published case study, TA achieved a 30% transportation cost reduction following a network redesign and 99% routing accuracy across its managed transportation operations.

The integration came as TA’s expanding LTL operations created challenges with traditional rating processes, including visibility gaps and interlining complications. The company standardized its operations using SMC³’s platform for rating, routing, and transit intelligence.

“Our goal was to utilize technology that creates a seamless, people-first experience for our customers while giving our teams the information, precision, and reliability needed to deliver peak performance every day,” said Mike Teresinski, EVP of operations, managed transportation and cross-border at TA.

The case study outlines several operational outcomes from the integration. TA reported 8.3% portfolio savings through carrier selection optimization, with some lanes showing savings up to 25%. Routing accuracy reached 99% for managed transportation, while consolidated, multimodal shipments achieved 90-95% accuracy.

TA’s shipper customers have seen changes in quoting speed, visibility, and exception rates. A supply chain executive at a golf retailer using TA’s services noted improvements in logistics optimization and visibility tools.

“Our goal is to make the hard work disappear for customers so TA can stay focused on delivering results,” said Brian Thompson, chief commercial officer at SMC³.

The companies plan to expand their integration through additional API connections, enhanced real-time visibility features, and updates to dispatch and documentation systems. Both organizations indicated plans to continue adapting their partnership to evolving shipper requirements.
